The field of addiction counseling has contended with how to interpret and address dependence for decades. For some, addiction is better understood as a disease that can respond to the standard handling of detox, group work and self-help programmes, AA in particular, that center primarily on addictive conduct. For others, addiction is a behaviour motivated by elemental disputes and topics that demand to be handled in a treatment process fashioned for each individual, one that addresses his/her peculiar elementary psychological dynamics.
