Acorn is a specialist treatment centre for drug and alcohol dependent people who want to become, and remain, drug and alcohol-free.
Treatment
It provides structured group work programmes and one-to-one counselling
RAMP
The Reduction and Motivational Programme (RAMP), is an introduction to understanding addiction and dependency and encourages people to stop misusing drugs and alcohol.
Primary Treatment
Once substance misuse-free or ready to become abstinent, clients can start the primary treatment programme. This is an 8 week intensive day programme of counselling and group work based on the principle of 12 steps. Click Acorn Treatment 12-Step for more information on the concept.
Secondary Treatment
The second stage of treatment includes group work and is aimed at addressing obstacles that can be faced when returning to mainstream society. An aftercare programme is also available to provide support in preventing any relapse.
Supported Accommodation
Acorn can offer its clients supported accommodation within Stockport, providing a stable environment with additional help to gain full recovery within the community.

Case Study-Stockport Service Users Forum
‘I was addicted to heroin and crack for 10 years before I decided enough was enough.
It took my daughter being removed from my care to come to this decision.
I had been put on a Drug Rehabilitation Requirement by the courts which turned out to be a godsend. I had a good relationship with my probation officer and she suggested I take part in the Freedom Programme for domestic abuse and RAMP (Reduction and Motivation Programme). At this point I had not used street drugs for a few weeks and was on a methadone reduction programme.
It was before one of these sessions that I saw members of Stockport Service Users Forum where they were doing a drop-in for service users. I knew a couple of people from the forum prior to this and they suggested I get involved, adding that it would be good for my recovery.
Since then, I have attended 3 service user meetings, helped at the bring and swaps, attended Manchester Treatment Planning meeting and the National Service Users Conference. I have now been free of street drugs for over five months and have a detox planned for later this month.
Participating in the service users forum has helped me in my recovery and it feels good to help other addicts and to improve our services’.
